Area around the CNHP visitor's center and beach picnic area

Another nice loop of a walk begins at Redoubts 9 & 10, follows a path towards the visitor's center, takes a detour down to a small beach area next to the picnic grounds, through the picnic grounds. Then either up the "Tobacco Road" footpath to the visitor's center or past the pier on Water Street, and up the big ravine to Main Street, past the historic Nelson and Digges houses, past the Victory Monument, over the foot bridge to the visitor's center and back.

Deer are frequently encountered along the footpath from Redoubt 10 to the Visitor's Center.
As well as the path along the boundary fence down to the little beach are east of the picnic grounds.

Here is the view from the edge of the picnic area, showing the Victory Monument, Yorktown pier, Coleman Bridge and VIMS.

Gorgeous sunsets and moon rises can also be viewed from the picnic area.

Further west the American Eagle can be found docked at the Yorktown pier from time to time.

The Great Valley path from Water Street just past the Yorktown Foundation's House up to Main Street in front of the the Nelson House.

The historic house of Thomas Nelson, signatory of the Declaration of Independence. A cannon ball can be seen still lodged in the gable end on the photo to the right. Seen in festive holiday decoration and lighting below

The historic house of Dudley Digges.

The Victory Monument with the Drum and Fife Corp practicing in front one early evening.

The top of the "Tobacco Road" footpath from the beach picnic area to the west corner of the Visitor's Center parking lot. Again, keep an eye out for deer along the path.
